It’s the year of the rabbit!

It’s midterm time! I had one on Friday, I have one this Friday, two next Tuesday, and another next Friday. They were definitely invented to torture us. >.<

Life has been filled with lots of homework, studying, SACNAS, labs, lab reports, and more homework. Sometimes I can eat and sleep…but only sometimes. So starting this week, I’m going to be studying like crazy for midterms as well as starting up with research again.

I have problems to work on to help me use the tools available on COMSOL and to help me understand what it is I am doing. The difficulty with doing research is that I don’t have the program on my own computer. I can only work on research in one of the computer labs on campus. I prefer working with others and this research is more of an individual project…I think I lose my mind sometimes when I work alone.

I’ve realized something this quarter…24 hours is not long enough for one day. People say that in college one can do only two of three things: study, sleep, or party. I’ve been doing the first two, yet I still don’t have enough time, but it’s all worth it.

I get to eat Chinese food tomorrow…I’m excited! 🙂 Chinese New Year is on the 3rd!

Have a fabulous week! It’s the beginning of a new month!

Did you know…?

The lightning bolt is 3X hotter than the sun. 🙂

So…its only been 3 weeks since winter quarter started and I am so incredibly busy its ridiculous.

I have classes and clubs and attempting to do research at the same as well as applying for summer internships.

I haven’t actually really started on research again this quarter since my advisor has been busy, but I should be starting up again next week. It’s still the same thing: working on COMSOL. I hope to make more progress this quarter than I did last quarter. I have asked for help from a graduate student to help guide me through the program rather than me trying to learn something I am completely unfamiliar with.

I have homework spread out throughout the week…meaning I have assignments due on almost every single day so I’m usually spending all my time working on homework and studying. I’m still trying to balance my time out so I have time to do other things, but I’m realizing that there simply isn’t enough time in a day to do that.

There’s a SACNAS Meeting this Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 6:30PM at Elings 1601. Come for a talk by Professor Ken Millett about his experiences and his research as well as free food afterwards!

FREEDOM! :)

Finals are over and I’m home! 🙂  Now, I’m just waiting anxiously for grades to come out. I’m honestly not expecting anything good. 🙁 Definitely planning on balancing my time better and working my butt off next quarter.

I still need to finish Christmas shopping and I’m looking forward to three weeks of good food, family, friends, and relaxation! 🙂

Have an amazing break! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Don’t forget…SACNAS GBM #1 for winter quarter is on January 11, 2011 at 6:30 PM in Elings 1601! =]

Finals were invented to torture us >.<

Next week is finals week and I need to study my butt off! Because of Thanksgiving break and finals coming up, I haven’t really been able to work on my project. COMSOL is very expensive and I don’t have it on my computer…so I can only work on the project when I’m on campus in one of the computer labs. This makes things a little more difficult.

My project doesn’t involve experiments nor does it require fast results; my purpose is to provide a new insight to the problem since I am unfamiliar with many of the problems. The project is going slowly, but i’ll be able to work on it more intensely at the beginning of next quarter.

I’m stressing out about finals and grades. It’s stressful. Y_Y

It was nice having a break for a few days, basically relaxed and made up for all the sleep I hadn’t been getting.

Black Friday shopping => BUSY but got great deals! 🙂

My housemate just discovered a ninja game…they’re so cute and it’s sooo much fun! ^_^

DNA Transportation

It’s already the 8th week of the quarter! O.o

So research…

I attended the COMSOL Workshop last week and that was pretty helpful in regards to learning the new software. The new version of COMSOL seems a lot more user friendly than the older version, which is why I plan on using only the new version for all my research purposes. I’m still working on getting to know the program…slowly but surely.

Luke has given me a specific problem to work on so I can get more familiar with the program. I am to model a membrane which separates a rectangular box into two compartments. The membrane contains a hole in the center to allow for fluid to mix as fluid is added to both compartments. The goal is to find the current and voltage across the two compartments; we will see the relationship between the two. This will be a model for the transportation of DNA; DNA will pass through the hole (the diameter will be on the nanoscale) in the membrane.

Physics is currently kicking my butt. I have a history paper due this Friday. Statics homework confuses me.

I dropped my phone two separate time while biking today. Not fun. >.<

SACNAS General Body Meeting #4 this Tuesday, November, 16th at 6:30PM. We will have a guest speaker from the Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics talking about quantum computing!

The SACNAS-LI-NSBE Holiday Dinner is this Saturday, November 20,2010 at 6PM! (:

Have a fabulous Thanksgiving!

mmmm….

food…
